Working in the local community
Did you know that we work in partnership with St Aldhelm’s church in Edmonton? Learners in Year 13 have been attending the church every Tuesday, where they take part in a mix of activities. These include gardening, baking, cleaning and running a coffee cart.
I had the pleasure of dropping by to visit Packham class this week. On my visit I saw our students busily working away. They proudly showed off the new skills they’ve learnt since starting this new supported work experience placement.
I was very impressed to hear they had been learning how to make different types of hot drinks for customers. Serving on the coffee cart has allowed them to try out their customer service skills. They’ve also been baking shortbread cookies. These have gone down well with locals -including staff at nearby Millfield Theatre and Aylward Academy.
Students have put their horticulture skills into practice, beautifully maintaining the surrounding gardens. It's wonderful to hear how working together and engaging with the local community has helped their confidence grow.
If you’re in the area please feel free to pop in for a visit yourself. The coffee cart runs from 10am till 2pm weekly on Tuesdays during term time. If you time your visit just right you may also get to try out the weekly baked goods on offer!
The Theatre Pass Scheme enables members of our community to access our programmes.
Within the Theatre Pass Scheme, you receive 8x free tickets to any Chickenshed show or workshop throughout the year.
