Learning about Staying Safe Online

This week, we celebrated Safer Internet Day to promote safe and responsible use of digital technology, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) as this year’s theme.

Our learners took part in activities about staying safe online, with a special focus on AI voice assistants. The key message was simple: AI is a computer, not a person.

Willow learners sorted objects into ‘computer’ and ‘person’ groups and watched a short video about how computers work. They learned that computers could talk, play music, and help with homework, but they do not have feelings or thoughts.

In Oak and Sycamore, learners explored AI tools like Alexa. They discussed what AI can and cannot do. Some classes played a fun game called ‘Smart Speaker Says’ (a version of ‘Simon Says’), while others designed their own smart speakers and talked about safe online choices.

We encourage you to continue these conversations at home. Ask your child how they use technology, check device settings together, and keep parental controls on to help everyone stay safe online.
