Building Skills Through Work Experience
This year, we have worked incredibly hard to launch our brand-new Work Experience (WEX) programme. During Careers Week, students took part in activities to reflect on their hobbies, interests, skills, and personal qualities, and how these link to different jobs.
Students then applied for in-school roles. After completing applications and interviews, students amazed us with their professionalism and passion for the roles they chose.
We now have students working in apprenticeship-style roles across the school. These include receptionists learning from reception, catering and cleaning teams supporting our kitchen staff, gardeners working with Gemma Millet, and post helpers delivering mail. We also have roles as librarians, recycling monitors, and site manager helpers, who began with an induction on being environmentally friendly and more roles coming up.
These roles give students a real sense of responsibility and belonging, while helping them build confidence, communication, teamwork, and other essential skills for the future.
