Exploring the Forest School Pilot Programme
As part of our wider curriculum development, we are exploring the introduction of a Forest School programme across the campus. This outdoor, child-centred approach supports confidence, independence, resilience, and a deeper connection with nature. It also supports key areas of development such as teamwork, problem-solving skills, communication, and physical wellbeing.
Currently, Lister Class is leading the programme to help shape how Forest School will be implemented across the school. This phase allows us to trial activities, assess engagement, and identify the resources needed for future expansion.
So far, pupils have taken part in practical activities such as collecting firewood, learning to handle materials safely, and building and managing a small, supervised fire. They have also enjoyed outdoor cooking, including making popcorn and cooking pasta, developing patience, cooperation, and basic life skills.
Early observations show high levels of engagement and enthusiasm. The insights gained from this pilot will guide the future development of Forest School across the campus.
