Campus update

Lets get cooking!

Our Year 8 learners are focusing on food education this term. It has been a treat to see their enthusiasm in the kitchen.

In their first lesson, they practised measuring both solid and liquid ingredients.

Last week, the kitchen was filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked biscuits. But they didn't just bake – they also put on their food critic hats!

First, the class judged the shape, taste, smell, and appearance of their biscuits. Then they made some suggestions for improvements.

These cooking and baking activities are more than just fun. They are excellent for developing planning and life skills.

We'd love for you to join in the baking fun at home! Here's the recipe for star biscuits that our learners used*:

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C.
  2. Mix 100g of butter and 50g of caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add a few drops of vanilla essence, mix, then incorporate 175g of plain flour.
  4. Roll out to about 5mm thick and cut into star shapes.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

If you decide to try this recipe, we'd love to hear about your experience! Let us know how it went and any tasty tweaks you made to the recipe. Happy baking, everyone!

*We carefully checked for any allergies and used replacements for the butter, as well as, gluten and wheat-free flour.

It was also lovely to meet a representative from the Samaritans. The student council proudly presented a donation of £406 - Well done everyone!
