Remembering VE Day: Learning from the past

On Thursday, we marked a special occasion at Haselbury - VE Day. It was a valuable opportunity for learners to explore this important part of history and reflect on the sacrifices made during World War II.

Teachers led informative class presentations to help learners understand why VE Day was significant then and why it still matters today. It was a powerful way to connect with the past and appreciate how it continues to shape our world.

Did you know the phrase "I'm washing my hair" comes from wartime? Learners were fascinated to discover that hair-washing was considered a weekly luxury – and people often avoided meeting up until after they’d had the chance!

If you celebrated VE Day at home or in the community, we’d love to hear about it. Feel free to send photos to your child's class teacher – we’ll share them in class to keep the learning going.
