Campus update

Let’s get down to business!

Work experience is an important part of the curriculum at Horizon campus.  Learning in a work environment helps prepare students for future employment.

We are working in partnership with lots of employers. They help give our students the opportunity to learn and grow in a work setting.  Work experience is a chance for them to develop the skills and knowledge they need for employment.

One of our partners, Fortuna Healthcare, have helped us set up a printing enterprise at their premises.

Students work with industry professionals from a company named 'My Elements'. They produce personalised products for sale.

Learners partake in the manufacturing process from start to finish.  They utilise skills such as:

  • Graphic design
  • Attention to detail
  • Quality control
  • Team work and communication.

You can help your young person at home by talking with them about their career aspirations.  You might like to ask them questions such as, “what is your dream job?” and “would you like to work indoors or outdoors?”

You could also watch a video with them about Nicholas’ journey to employment

If you’d like to learn more about the employability programmes we offer at West Lea, please join us for one of our Supported Internship Open days.

The next one is on Tuesday 22nd October from 5pm at Horizon campus college (Ponders End site).
