Campus update

The power of words

We know that reading is important for so many reasons. It helps us to improve our vocabulary and communication skills. It also helps us to understand the world around us.

Reading forms a big part of English lessons. This term, students have been focusing on reading. They are preparing for the reading element of their functional skills assessments.

Reading also features in all other areas of the curriculum and life, in and around school.

Students must read instructions to help them follow recipes in Catering lessons. Problem solving in math's lessons, involves solving word problems. Reading is a part of everything!

We also promote a love of reading through morning tutorials. This week, Walsh class have been working on summaries of 'Kensuke’s Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. A book about a young boy’s adventures as he finds himself stranded on an island.

In Current Affairs tutorials, students stay up to date with what’s in the news. There are many online sites that are accessible to our students which they can access from home. Take a look at this round up of resources from The Guardian Foundation.
