Personal Development

Personal development is equally as important as progress in core subjects. Our personal development curriculum and enrichment offer is designed to support students to flourish as they prepare for adulthood.

Sixth formers have regular PSHE lessons where they explore a variety of topics:

  • Looking after mental health and wellbeing
  • Learning about the criminal justice system
  • Organsising finances
  • The importance of budgeting- especially during the cost of living crisis

Learners partake in Life & Work lessons. They have been developing their independent living skills. This term, they have been busy practising their ironing and bed making skills.  Why don’t you get them to show you what they’ve learnt at home?

Students on our employability programmes also take part in Life & Work lessons. They have been exploring different job industries and the local job market.

Pre-interns receive support when making decisions about their future career. They’ve explored key areas where there are local job opportunities. Catering, Retail as well as Sports and Leisure are some options. They have participated in practical tasks to replicate what it is like to work in these industries.

All students at Horizon take part in work experience activities too.  Some access supported WEX as a whole class, whilst others go to an individual placement.  Work experience enables students to develop the skills needed for work.
