Campus update

Building confidence and solving a mystery

It’s been a great second week of the new school year at Horizon. Sixth Form students are settling in well and we are very proud of the positive attitude and maturity they’ve shown already.

This week we welcomed new interns. It’s an exciting start to their journey towards employment on a Horizon Works programme.

Junior interns have started lessons to help them get ready for a supported internship.  In these sessions, they explore various industries and career opportunities. The focus is on building the confidence to help them enter the world of work.

Work experience preparations have also started, to dive deeper into the placements and tasks they can expect to do.

Senior interns have started their 7 week induction programme, which includes a variety of activities such as work tasters with different employers, orienteering and challenges.  They are also taking part in activities to boost their work skills.

There were impressive problem solving skills on show as they took part in a SkillsBuilder challenge to solve  ‘The Case of the Missing Internship Folder’. Working together, they had to review the physical and digital evidence presented to them. Using all their detective skills, the team had to crack the case and find out who the culprit was.

A special thanks to the job coaches who used their impressive acting skills, and really went the extra mile to bring this learning experience to life!
