Capturing Our Community: Photography Trip to Ponders End Lock
Our photography students visited Ponders End Lock in Enfield for a short afternoon trip. The aim was to take real photos for their coursework, which focuses on the local community.
Over the past few weeks, learners have been developing their skills in composition and different types of shots. They practised long shots to set the scene, medium shots, and close-ups to capture details, as well as experimenting with high and low angles to make their images more engaging.
They have also been learning about the Exposure Triangle; how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO (light sensitivity) work together. While this can be challenging at first, it becomes much clearer when applied in real-life situations.
At the location, learners explored creatively photographing the water, framing the lock gates, and capturing close-ups of flowers. A highlight of the trip was visiting nearby stables, where they photographed horses from a distance. This provided a great opportunity to practise long shots, with excellent results.
The group was focused, enthusiastic, and supportive, and they were proud of what they achieved.
Dylan from Watson Class said, “I really enjoyed the trip. I especially liked taking photos of horses, buildings, the canal, shops, church, and bus stops.”
The photos taken by the learners will be added to their coursework portfolios, and we look forward to seeing their final work.
