A Positive Start with Breakfast Time
Every morning from 9:00am to 9:30am, learners choose their breakfast and sit together around the classroom mealtime table. This calm, welcoming start helps them build friendships, practise communication skills, and enjoy social time.
Breakfast Time also helps learners regulate, settle into the school day, and feel ready for phonics and reading sessions at 9:30am.
Mealtime chat visuals help non-speaking learners share their thoughts and preferences, while encouraging speaking learners to start and maintain conversations more independently. These skills support EHCP outcomes and personal development targets in Learners’ Personal Learning Plans (LPLPs), helping everyone progress towards their individual goals.
At West Lea, every family deserves to feel welcomed, valued, and heard. Scroll down to complete our Family Belonging Survey by Friday 6th November 2026 and help us build an even stronger school community.
